The 2013 Balochistan earthquake created a new island off Pakistan's Gwadar coast — a small hill of mud and rock that rose from the sea due to underground gas pressure released by the earthquake. The earthquake killed 825 people in remote Balochistan Province.

Tectonic Cause
Strike-slip earthquake in the Makran accretionary prism at the boundary of the Arabian and Eurasian plates. The new island was a mud volcano, not a volcanic feature.
