Earthquake Globe tracks real-time seismic events worldwide and sends push alerts based on your chosen magnitude threshold and location radius. If you have questions or run into issues, we're here to help.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I enable earthquake notifications?
Open the Settings tab in the app and toggle Enable Notifications on. iOS will ask for permission the first time. Once granted, you can set a magnitude threshold (e.g. M 5.0+) and an optional alert radius around your location.
If you previously denied permission, go to iPhone Settings → Earthquake Globe → Notifications and enable them there.
What is the alert radius and how does it work?
The alert radius lets you receive notifications only for earthquakes within a chosen distance (50–1000 km) from your current location. Set it to Any distance to receive global alerts for all events above your magnitude threshold. Location permission is required to use the radius feature.
Why does the app request location permission?
Location is used entirely on-device to calculate the distance between you and earthquake events. Your coordinates are never sent to our servers or any third party. Granting location permission is optional — the app works fully without it, but the radius alert feature will be unavailable.
Where does the earthquake data come from?
All seismic data is sourced from the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) public GeoJSON feeds. The app refreshes data automatically and covers events worldwide — over 180 countries.
I'm not receiving notifications even though they're enabled. What should I do?
First, check that iOS notifications are allowed: iPhone Settings → Earthquake Globe → Notifications → Allow Notifications. Also make sure your magnitude threshold isn't set too high — try lowering it to M 4.0+ to confirm notifications are working. Background App Refresh must also be enabled for the app to fetch new events in the background.
