1. Who We Are
Earthquake Globe is operated by Nikita Spitsyn, an individual entrepreneur (individually "we", "us", "our", or "Operator"). The service is distributed under the brand Supafast and consists of:
- The website earthquakes.site ("Website"); and
- The iOS application Earthquake Globe ("App"), available on the Apple App Store.
Together, the Website and App are referred to as the "Service." The data controller for personal data processed through the Service is:
Operator contact: contact@qualtir.com
2. Data We Collect
We are committed to minimal data collection. The table below describes all categories of information that may be collected or processed when you use the Service.
2.1 Information You Provide
The Service does not require account registration, email address, name, or any personal information to function. If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to include in that message.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
| Category | What is collected | Identifiable? |
|---|---|---|
| Analytics (Website) | Page views, referrer, browser type, country-level location, session duration — aggregated and anonymized by Vercel Analytics | No |
| Analytics (App) | Crash reports, app launch events, OS version, device model — processed anonymously | No |
| Crash / Error Reports | Stack traces, device state at the time of crash — collected by Sentry with IP anonymization enabled | Indirectly (IP truncated) |
| Push Notification Token (App) | An Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) device token, generated by iOS and stored locally on your device. Transmitted to Apple to deliver alerts. Not linked to your identity. | No (opaque token) |
| Location Data (App, optional) | Approximate or precise geographic coordinates — collected only with your explicit permission and used exclusively on-device to compute distance from earthquake events. Your location is never transmitted to our servers. | Yes (on-device only) |
| Preferences (App) | Notification thresholds, map style, filter settings — stored locally in iOS UserDefaults. Never transmitted. | No |
2.3 Earthquake Data
All seismic data displayed by the Service is fetched from publicly available feeds provided by the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program. These requests carry standard HTTP headers (user-agent, IP address) but no personal identifiers originating from you. USGS data is in the public domain.
3. How We Use Data
We use the information described above solely for the following purposes:
- To provide and operate the Service (display earthquake data, deliver push alerts);
- To diagnose and fix technical errors (crash reports);
- To understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the Service (anonymized analytics);
- To respond to your inquiries (email correspondence);
- To comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We do not engage in behavioral advertising, profiling, or automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, we process personal data on the following legal grounds under GDPR Article 6:
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): We process anonymized analytics and crash report data to improve the Service. Our legitimate interest in maintaining a functioning, high-quality service outweighs the minimal privacy impact of anonymized data.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9 where applicable): We process location data and send push notifications only when you have given explicit consent through the iOS permission dialog. You may withdraw consent at any time by revoking the relevant permission in iOS Settings.
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): We may process data where required by applicable law.
5. Storage and Retention
We retain data only for as long as necessary for the purposes stated above or as required by law.
- Anonymized analytics: Retained for up to 24 months in aggregated form; individual event data is not retained beyond what the analytics provider requires for aggregation.
- Crash reports: Retained for up to 90 days in Sentry, after which they are automatically deleted.
- Email correspondence: Retained for as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry, and thereafter as required by applicable law (typically no more than 3 years).
- On-device data (preferences, location): Stored locally on your device and controlled entirely by you. Uninstalling the App removes all local data.
6. Third-Party Processors
We use the following sub-processors. By using the Service, you acknowledge that data may be processed by these parties under their respective privacy policies.
| Processor | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel Inc. | Website hosting and anonymized web analytics | vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| Apple Inc. | App distribution (App Store), push notification delivery (APNs), crash reporting (MetricKit / TestFlight) | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) | Error and crash monitoring | sentry.io/privacy |
| USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) | Source of public-domain seismic data; receives standard HTTP requests from the App/Website | usgs.gov/policies-and-notices |
If we are using Google Analytics 4, it is configured with IP anonymization and data retention set to the minimum available period (2 months). Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
7. Cookies and Tracking
The Website may use cookies and similar technologies solely for the purposes of performance analytics and service functionality. We do not use cookies for advertising, cross-site tracking, or profiling.
- Strictly necessary cookies: Required for the Website to function correctly (e.g., session state). Cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies: Used by Vercel Analytics (and optionally Google Analytics 4) to collect aggregated, anonymized statistics. You may opt out by enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser or using a browser extension such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.
The App does not use cookies. It uses iOS UserDefaults for local preference storage only.
