Earthquake Map

Every earthquake detected by USGS seismograph networks — visualized on a 3D globe the moment data arrives. Filter by magnitude, depth, and time period to focus on what matters.

Where does the earthquake data come from?

USGS GeoJSON Feeds

Data sourced directly from the US Geological Survey — the authoritative global earthquake monitoring agency with 150+ seismograph stations.

60-Second Refresh

The app polls USGS feeds every 60 seconds. New earthquakes appear within minutes of detection — faster than most news sites.

Global Coverage

Every earthquake on Earth above M1.0 — not just the headlines. The full USGS catalog with location, magnitude, depth, and time.

Powerful filters for every need

The map adapts to your situation — whether you want a global overview or a detailed view of seismic activity near your home.

Magnitude Range

Filter from M1.0 micro-tremors to M8.0+ megaquakes. Set a minimum threshold to cut out the noise.

Time Period

View the last hour, 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days of seismic activity. Great for tracking aftershock sequences.

Depth Layer

Toggle between shallow, intermediate, and deep focus earthquakes. Color-coded pins make depth instantly visible.

Radius Mode

Center the view on any location and see all earthquakes within 50, 100, 250, 500, or 1,000 km.

Frequently asked questions

How often is the earthquake map updated?

Earthquake Globe fetches new data from USGS GeoJSON feeds every 60 seconds. Most earthquakes appear on the map within 1–5 minutes of being detected by seismic sensors.

What is the smallest earthquake shown on the map?

By default, the map shows earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 and above worldwide. You can lower the filter to M1.0 for regional views or raise it to M5.0+ to focus only on significant events.

Does the earthquake map work offline?

The app caches the last-fetched set of events, so you can view recent earthquakes without an internet connection. New events require connectivity to load.

How is earthquake depth shown on the map?

Pin color indicates depth: red for shallow (0–70 km), orange for intermediate (70–300 km), and yellow for deep (300+ km). Shallow earthquakes typically cause more surface damage.

Can I filter the map to a specific country or region?

Yes. Use the region filter to zoom and filter events for specific countries. You can also set a radius alert centered on any location to focus on nearby seismic activity.
