2005 Pakistan / India Earthquake

Kashmir, Pakistan — October 8, 2005

The 2005 Kashmir earthquake was one of the deadliest in Asian history, destroying virtually every building in many mountain communities. The death toll was so high because of the region's rugged terrain, poor building construction, and the earthquake's shallow depth directly beneath densely populated valleys.
